This somewhat comedic video is from Blake “DoctorAtlantis” Smith, who introduces it thusly: “I have posted a follow-up video based on several remarks from [pro-'juvenile Sasquatch'] posters. I think this video, while still mildly sarcastic, does contain some good analytic data.” {Warning: Loud music soundtrack.}
Women Take On Bigfoot
On MonsterQuest on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, it is all women on the track of “Bigfoot.” The show’s description has this to say: “Bigfoot has been sighted in Washington State more than any other place on earth. Join an all-female expedition as they try to lure a Bigfoot within range of their cameras. The 1967 Patterson footage will be reexamined using digital microscopes that could reveal details that might prove if the beast is real or a hoax.” I asked one of the members of the expedition, Monica Rawlins for some details. Her answers to my questions are below: Loren: [...]
New Yeren Footprints Found
Although I mentioned the footprints in my previously published “Top Ten…for 2007″ list, this more detailed news item includes additional information: The bigger footprint discovered was 30 centimeters long with a width of eight centimeters at the heel and 12 centimeters at the sole. The investigation into the Shennongjia “wild men” made great progress when witnesses identified two footprints left along the Licha River where the two mysterious creatures had been spotted. An investigative team consisting of journalists and officials from the local government and scientific investigators were sent out along the Licha River to conduct a thorough investigation on [...]
2007’s Top Five Melanistic Deer Hot Spots
2007′s Top Five Melanistic Deer Hot Spots in America by Loren Coleman, cryptozoologist and coauthor of cryptozoological field guides. In the tradition of my list of the top places to find melanistic squirrels in 2006, here’s a list of the top locations to see black deer in 2007. 1. Texas Hill Country, Central Texas. It has been said that the eastern edge of Texas’ Edwards Plateau region and adjacent areas of the Blackland Prairie region are the epicenter of the world’s population of melanistic white-tailed deer, for reasons not well understood by zoologists. In going over the scientific literature, Dr. [...]
2010 Olympics Mascots Go Crypto
The 2010 Olympics are taking on a decidedly cryptozoological slant with two of their three official mascots being partially based on cryptids. There is no doubt that the Sasquatch-influenced Quatchi and the weird Bear-Thunderbird-Guardian Spirit Sumi will give us much to ponder as these games get closer. I especially look forward to seeing what kind of Quatchi cultural and souvenir Sasquatch spillovers these British Columbian events will produce. But why the boots? Doesn’t that kind of defeat the fun of leaving big footprints behind?
The Top Ten Cryptozoology Stories for 2007
The Top Ten Cryptozoology Stories for 2007 by Loren Coleman, Cryptozoologist and Author, Mysterious America, Cryptozoology A to Z, and other books. From Bigfoot to Yeren, and from dwarf killer whales to dwarf manatees, it was quite a year. Welcome to this year’s top stories in cryptozoology. It wasn’t heaven during 2007 for the cryptids, but instead seemed to have been a year of reflection, mistakes, fakes, and a few new finds. In the 1940s, the Scottish-born American zoologist Ivan T. Sanderson (photo with lemur) began using a word he coined, “cryptozoology,” to describe a new discipline of science that [...]
New Sea Anemones Walk
One of the new anemones. Photo courtesy of Stephen Jewett. A couple newly discovered species don’t talk but they apparently “walk!” Unlike most sea anemones that attach themselves to the sea floor, two possibly new species found in the waters surrounding the Aleutian Islands near Alaska can swim and walk. The employment this mode of travel when feeding, it appears. Scientists discovered the anemones as well as a new species of kelp as part of a two-year scientific survey of the waters around the Aleutians. “Since the underwater world of the Aleutian Islands has been studied so little, new species [...]
Skeptic Created Fake Pterosaur Footage?
You may recall that the following footage was reluctantly mentioned here in September 2007. It was claimed to be an “old 1924 video of supposed Pterosaur in PNG.” Now, the Dinosaurs and Origins weblog is saying this is a fake that was created by a skeptic to discredit a researcher. It looked as if David Woetzel (Cryptozoologist and member of ICR) had posted it. However, this video is a fraud and the real David Woetzel had nothing to do with it. It may be hard to believe that a skeptic stooped this low attempting to discredit the research of a [...]
Cryptomundians Talk Hybrids
Here are some recent things said by Brent Swancer (mystery man) and Sheila Collins (kittenz) in an exchange about hybrids, which was going off-topic within another blog. The opinions expressed in the following comments do not (necessarily) express those of any Cryptomundo bloggers, and should be viewed as readers’ commentary versus verified factual information that has been fully researched, although it may have been. If people wish to discuss hybrids, here it is the discussion originally posted as comments only. Brent Swancer on hybrids: Not all hybrids get huge, and there are hybrids that are smaller than both parents. For [...]
What Was The Coatesville Creature?
Coatesville, Pa. – (AP) – A mysterious animal – described by witnesses as having a small head, a neck a foot long, the jumping ability of a deer and a scream like that of two cats – was reported prowling through Chester county woods today. There were some who received the reports with skepticism, but Sylvester Scott, 31-year-old farmer, vowed he saw the what-is-it and three times had heard its eerie wail echoing over the countryside. Others said they had been “gunning” for it. Scott declared the creature appeared one day in a field where he was spreading fertilizer. “It [...]
