Eli Harrington, who is a communications volunteer this summer working in China, has recently returned from exploring some little known Yeren sites. One of the Chinese posters used in local villagers to encourage eyewitnesses to tell Yeren researchers about their sightings. Chinese researcher Yuan Zhenxin with the cast of an alleged Yeren from Hubei province’s Shennogjia Nature Reserve. While in China, Harrington took a few side trips to see the crypto-parts and other wonders of the country. Highlights he has mentioned include the horseback riding in the Mongolian grasslands, archery/airsoft gun games, the Buddhist temple with world’s largest wooden Buddha, [...]
Kiwi Moose 2008
For years the New Zealand media has reported claims that Canadian moose may still roam the remote rain forests in the extreme southwest tip of the country. In 1910, ten moose were brought over from Saskatchewan in the hopes of establishing a population of game for sportsman in New Zealand, a country without indigenous land mammals of its own. However, the last official sighting — and shooting — of a New Zealand moose was in 1952. Outside of a few alleged sightings in the 1970s and the discovery of some curious droppings, no one has actually seen the mysterious creatures, [...]
Yeti News
The Associated Press carries an article today, in essence, saying the belief in the Yeti is on a decline in Bhutan as it becomes modernized. Here are some snippets from “Losing the Yeti in Forgotten Nation of Bhutan,” by Tim Sullivan: In the West, yeti-like creatures long ago were reduced to myth. The Abominable Snowman is something from a “Scooby Doo” episode, or part of the latest installment in Hollywood’s “Mummy” franchise. To mainstream science, the notion of Bigfoot is little more than a joke. But across the Himalayas the beast was seen as real, known for generations in a [...]
Creationist Details Papua Dino Sightings
Since the 1990s, a large ‘reptilian’ creature has been sighted occasionally on Umbungi Island in West New Britain, Papua New Guinea. Umbungi Island is located on the south coast of West New Britain between Kandrian and Gasmata. The creature has also been sighted on Alage Island, about 1km to the south of Ambungi Island. So begins Brian Irwin of “Creation on the Web” detailing his interviews of local residents of two islands on the south coast of West New Britain Province, Papua, New Guinea. Descriptions given by villagers seem to indicate to Irwin the presence of an alleged bipedal aquatic [...]
Qaqrat Monster Washes Ashore in Alaska
Qaqrat is a word in the Inuit dialect of Cup’ig, Nunivak Island’s native language. It is phonetically pronounced “koo-gat” and translates as “beast-walrus.” One could say that the carcass of a qaqrat has graced itself upon Alaska. Will the fabled “beast-walrus” be the next media darling? After all the news attention to the recent carcass, the Montauk Monster, that washed ashore at a beach in New York, you might expect to hear about more such incidents this summer. A little paper in Seward, Alaska, seems to be the first one to tell of an actual similar unknown. Unfortunately, they have [...]
Montauk Monster Hoax Claim A Hoax
In the wake of this summer’s biggest crypto-blockbuster, doesn’t it make sense that someone might try to turn it into a gold mine of publicity for their project? John Green and I were once talking about the Sasquatch mystery, and he said, there will always be people to rush in and say that they hoaxed this story or that one to get the attention and stake a claim to history. The Montauk Monster is a mundane little body that’s become a weekend wonder. The rush is on now, with this wee Montauk marvel, to be the first to say “they [...]
1888: Mastodon Sightings
Grey River [New Zealand] Argus, February 17, 1888 A LIVE MASTODON. THE LATEST WONDER OF THE ALASKA FAUNA. The Juneau (Alaska) Free Press says that the Stick Indians, near the headwaters of the White river, positively assert that within the last five years an animal has been seen by them which, according to description, must be a mastodon. One of the Indians said that while hunting he came across an immense track sunk several inches in the moss and larger around than a barrel. The Indian followed up the curious trail, and at last came in full view of his [...]
Montauk Monster Replica
Guess what just showed up on eBay? Yep, a replica of the Montauk Monster. It looks very well done, nice color tones, and a good representation of the weekend wonder, if you ask me. The fake is above and the photo of the real deal is below. This is something I definitely want for the International Cryptozoology Museum. Considering I coined the name, perhaps I could get a discount? According to the notice at eBay (I’ve edited it for spelling and grammar): “Finally own this piece of history. BMFX FX Studios is proud to present this custom made prop. Made [...]
Joker’s Card, Jokawild, and Mothman
The Joker is wild. But so are a many other things overlapping with The Dark Knight. This is a Fortean piece, so if you were looking for something cryptozoologically pure, be afraid, be very, very afraid. The posting you are about to read contains twilight language musing and other treks on side streets you may have only rarely been down. Following my posting on “The Dark Knight Curse”, a phenomenon that was even discussed on CNN yesterday, some questioned whether or not the Joker is actually holding a “calling card” with a decapitated head. I was told that in the [...]

Ta Kou lizard (Cyrtodactylus takouensis). Two species of lizard and one species of pit viper [in the Vietnamese release = rattle-snake] were recently discovered on mountains in the provinces of Binh Thuan, Dong Nai and Kien Giang, Vietnam.
