On February 18, 2006, I wrote a Cryptomundo blog entitled, “Are Malaysian Bigfoot Colonies Really Orangutans?”. Today, May 14, 2006, somewhat symbolically perhaps, a rival group to Dr. Vincent Chow’s research team is announcing they feel they have the ultimate theory that the Malaysian Bigfoot are nothing more than known orangutans. Please click and see here for images supporting the text below. Has the discussion of the photographs taken of the “Bigfoot” in Johor revealed anything about these “Mawas” sightings? In February, I wondered aloud then if the Johor Wildlife Protection Society was merely talking about orangutans when discussing these [...]
Monsters & Mom’s Day
Here’s a quick roundup of stories surfacing today, Sunday, May 14, 2006, on America’s Mother’s Day. Perhaps someone will get an idea for a quick fieldtrip to Mormon country, Malaysia, or Massachusetts, out of this gathering? But stay away from Memphis! Part three of D. Robert Carter’s series on the Bear Lake Monsters and kin is in today’s Provo Daily Herald, “Fishermen find Utah Lake Monster.” Here for you are the links to the two earlier parts: “Why Bear Lake Again?” and “Meandrous Monster Migrates to Utah Lake.” On May 14, 2006, The New Straits Times published another article, “Johor [...]
Another Malaysian Mawas Book With Photos?!!
Oh no, more hype on the Johor Mawas? My goodness, those Malaysian media folks are drumming up more interest in their local "Bigfoot" again. How dare they? Are they just trying to stir up folks at Cryptomundo? And now they are talking about two books? And is this a new cryptid name, Orang Lenggor? What’s up with all of this as we go six months deep into this story? Haven’t we been here before? Yes, but, hey, is there different information that exists in the news? Well, that’s why we are reporting on it here. A new article published on [...]
Menehune Today
I had an excellent time on The Coast to Coast AM radio program (gulp, from 2 am to 5 am my time!) last night. George Noory and I shared high energy, great fun, and we moved through several topics you’ve been reading about here at Cryptomundo (e.g. Malaysian Mawas, Mt. Hood Bigfoot, Argentina Lake Monster, Thunderbird, Mothman, and Lizardmen). The crypto-cat fight was even briefly mentioned. In the last hour, we also had wonderful callers. A recap of the program and link to the audio in their archives can be found here. The first caller was a remarkable one. The [...]
Pete Loh’s Latest
Pete Loh in Singapore writes that the first sketch he attempted, according to Vincent Chow, has the hair a bit wrong. Chow says the hair on the shoulders is much longer and hanging. Loh just sent this third sketch incorporating the second sketch’s facial features and the longer shoulder hair. Have a look. Here’s the first and second drawings of what Chow is saying he’s seeing in the photos. This is not an exact science, but would like to let this unfold in front of you all so you can share, from the inside, as this develops. Of course, like [...]
Exact Description of Mawas
Talking To Vincent Chow on the Appearance of the Johor Bigfoot From the private collection of photographs that Vincent Chow has been shown, he has now described, in some detail, how he says the Malaysian Mawas or Johor Bigfoot appear to him. The following is a collection of the various statements from Chow of their descriptions. While we all can debate the reality of the photographs, what and when they will look like when and if they are released, the drawings and descriptions can be accessed and analyzed, just as we do with eyewitness details, in our feeble human attempt [...]
Crypto-Cat-Fight Continues
Oh no, Matt Moneymaker. Watch out! Here comes Daniel Perez and a possible future treatment in The Bigfootimes. Perez is telegraphing to the world that he’s interested in gathering stories that people have been telling online and privately for years about Moneymaker. As Perez posted on a public forum yesterday: "The more I hear about Moneymaker’s activities, the more I think he should be exposed for what he is." As far as a quick update on our May 7th posting, entitled "BFRO Declares War on Cryptomundo," Cryptomundo informants discovered soon afterwards that some rapid editing occurred at the BFRO. Aware [...]
From Russia, With Love
Message from Russian Hominologists to Malaysian Colleagues Dear Vincent Chow, May I warmly congratulate you and your Malaysian colleagues on a marvelous, most important and long expected achievement — getting clear photographs of what we call homins (our technical,”professional” jargon term for relict hominids). Back in 1963, my teacher of hominology, the late Professor Boris Porshnev, proposed and urged the use of photography as a means of solution of the relict hominid problem. I followed his advice and argued for this method in the book To Kill or To Film? The Problem of Proof, 2000, against those who insist on [...]
Hairy Hominoids Killed and Captured
The events in Malaysia are only the latest in a long history in Asia of interactions between humans and unknown hairy hominoids. Often, especially in times of war, the encounters have not been peaceful ones for the “Wild People.” Sometimes these incidents have been covered up for years, due to the military involvements, from regional fighting to the stories we are only recently hearing from the Vietnam War era. Will the future hold more such memoirs from fighting in Afghanistan? In the meantime, in The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates, there are vivid historical examples given in [...]
Pondering the Mawas Situation
With the death of Dr. Bernard Heuvelmans, 84, one of the fathers of Cryptozoology, on August 22, 2001, we lost more than a cryptozoologist. Indeed, a philosopher departed the scene. I have often wondered what he would say to all the interest and modern internet talk about the Malaysian Mawas and/or Bigfoot situation. As I look at his lover Alika Lindbergh’s paintings of Heuvelmans, the single quotation that keeps coming to my mind, from my sensitive friend and fellow thinker, is this one: Cryptozoological research should be actuated by two major forces: patience and passion. – Dr. Bernard Heuvelmans, Cryptozoology, [...]
