New Prehistoric Crocodilian
This image released by Rio de Janeiro Federal University, shows a new pointy-nosed prehistoric crocodile species that inhabited the Earth’s oceans 62 million years ago. Brazilian scientists unveiled a model of the nine foot (three meter) long Guarinisuchus munizi on Wednesday, March 26, 2008. The discovery may shed new light on the evolutionary history of the extinct group, which was a predecessor to modern crocodile species, and the theorized spreading of the species from Africa to South America.
Pinky Expedition: Monster Considerations
A major conclusion from my “Pinky Expedition” is the same one that I have found over and over again. There are no simple answers to the mysteries of monsters in our midst. Looking at other “cryptids,” additionally, we have to consider the other pieces of the puzzle. 10,000 BC and Terror Birds
If you haven’t seen 10,000 BC, I highly recommend you give it a second chance for your weekend viewing before it leaves the big screen. I find it discouraging that one of the major movie criticisms being heaped on 10,000 BC is that there was not enough blood and gore, that the slicing and dicing of humans, with full-screen blood spatter, did not fill every scene. Various interviews I’ve had with St. Johns River and Lake Monroe area residents who remember the news reports from the 1950s still do feel that the reports were merely “Northern” tourists who saw unusual (but known) animals in the local waters. In the quest for cryptids, various lines of inquiry usually are pursued to discover the realm of mundane observations that may have been converted into the extraordinary. Today, I look at the role of crocodilians, especially the American alligator, in any confusion with Pinky.
