Mothman + 40

After the success of The Mothman Prophecies, the sleepy town of Point Pleasant has reawakened. The organizers of the annual Mothman Festival at the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, have announced that they will once again have their event. The 5th annual MOTHMAN FESTIVAL will be held here in downtown Point Pleasant on Saturday and Sunday, September 16th and 17th, 2006. This year will mark the 40th anniversary of MOTHMAN’s debut appearance near the TNT area back in November of 1966 and plans for this year’s festival are already underway. The success and magnitude of the MOTHMAN FESTIVAL [...]

Bigfoot Captured in Cambodia in 2003? Exhibited Soon?

Safuan Abu Bakar says we all will be seeing a captured Johor-like Hominid soon. What is this all about? Have we vanished down the rabbit’s hole finally and found ourselves in a twilight zone we did not know about existed in Malaysia? New Straits Times Spot Light: Supernatural sightings? 09 Jul 2006 ———————————————————————— If a toyol is bothering you, or your neighbourhood is being terrorised by a jin, who do you call? No, not the ghostbusters but the P-Team. THEY are a team like no other and their members are made up of religious teachers and healers from Malaysia and [...]

Johor Hominid: What Do You Look Like?

Vincent Chow’s associate, Sean Ang, wrote the following on Friday, July 7, 2006: …we will publish a sketch based on the original photos, say by end of this week, latest next week. Vincent is working on one of the sketch now. I also intend to publish the close-up photo of the hair samples we have. Ang also said that photographs are “potential Pulitzer prize” caliber. Why, at this stage, the continued hyperbole? In transcripts of conversations on July 6th, with and shared by Jason Pritchett, Sean Ang noted that of the 14 reported photos, Sean has seen two individuals, both [...]

Luche Libre: Chupacabras

Just a brief note that with the success of Jack Black in the movie Nacho Libre (2006), many North Americans are awakening to the popularity of luche libre ("free-style fighting"). The masked version of Mexican professional wrestling has been around since the 1930s. As a reflection of popular culture, it is not surprising that cryptids pop up as characters, now and then, in luche libre. One luchador ("wrestler") has even dressed himself as a Chupacabras. Do you know others?

Drudge Report’s Big Birds

During the first weekend in July 2006, various published photographs from the Florida site of NASA’s probable Space Shuttle launch showed rather large birds near the location. One of these pictures (see below) was so dramatic that Matt Drudge commented about it on his Sunday night radio program. He remarked that he was being emailed so many questions about it he removed the pix from his Drudge Report website for a time. (Drudge definitely is aware of cryptozoology and infrequently posts news items about sightings of cryptids.) However, from further photographs published by Drudge (below) and elsewhere, it is obvious [...]

Marmoset Found in California

A tuft-eared marmoset was found on Tate Street, Palo Alto, San Mateo County, California, on June 27th, running along a backyard fence, according to media reports. It is of unknown origin, and is rare in the pet trade, being a native of Central and South America. The easily captured primate will probably be flown to Primarily Primates, a sanctuary outside of San Antonio, Texas, according to press accounts. As Craig noted here at Cryptomundo, however, there are management problems at Primarily Primates, a fact that does not appear to be known by the authorities at the humane society in California. [...]
