Intriguing that today, of all days, I should update a posting on a special effects genius, the late John Chambers. Now word comes in another great in the field, Stan Winston (above), 62, passed away, late Sunday, June 15, 2008, in Los Angeles, California. He died following a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma. “Stan died peacefully at home surrounded by family,” a spokeswoman said. His work is familiar to you. Winston created the title characters in Iron Man, The Terminator, Pumpkinhead, Predator, Aliens, as well as the monsters in Monster Squad, and the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park. He worked on [...]
LEGO Bigfoot and Yeti
Joel Johnson (the Boing Boing correspondent who toured and filmed my museum) has alerted me to the mention and actual work of Mike Stimpson, involving LEGO photography and various classic photographs that Stimpson has recreated. One of the greatest new images that Stimpson uploaded this week is an amazing Lego recreation of that famed frame from the Patterson-Gimlin footage. You know which one I’m talking about. It is “Frame 352″ from the film, showing the apparent female Bigfoot, today nicknamed “Patty.” Stimpson’s intriguing recreation… …was based on this: Of course, who could have ever known? Discovering Stimpson’s Lego recreation of [...]

Sasquatch Sighted in Parade
Stuart Tomlinson of The Oregonian on June 07, 2008, posted information on the RoseFest Parade in Oregon. “It appears from this float that Sasquatch, Bigfoot or whatever you want to call the mythical creature of Northwest forests, is looking for a new home — he’s riding the Oregon Realtors Float.” Photo by Stuart Tomlinson, The Oregonian “Three rooms, with river view please, privacy preferred. Bigfoot on the Oregon Realtors float.” In breaking news, some surprising new video has surfaced of this swinging Sasquatch. No rumors of a massacre involving this Bigfoot, however, have been tied to this footage. Yet. For [...]
Gardaland’s Bigfoot Coaster
The European amusement park, Gardaland, has announced that “Magic Mountain,” a Vekoma double loop corkscrew rollercoaster will become “Bigfoot” in their next season. Magic Mountain, a steel sit-down coaster, is situated on the lower level of the park as the park is set on a hill. It has been operating since 1985 making it the oldest coaster in the park. It stands at 98ft 5in above the ground and 2296ft 7in long making it last a total of 2:00 exactly. Its main elements are a double loop, double corkscrew and a rising helix. Gardaland is the third-most-popular theme park in [...]

The Mummy’s Yeti
From the new (third) Mummy movie, a first glimpse of their version of the Yeti. It’s white, needless to say. Thanks for the screen capture to Jason Pritchett.
Jesus and Bigfoot
In a previous recent blog, “Do Right Wingers Hate Bigfoot?,” one comment was made by Amdusias: “On the subject of Jesus and Bigfoot, I have marveled for some time at how much the image on the Shroud of Turin resembles the portrayal of Bigfoot from the Six Million Dollar Man TV series. There must be a connection between that show and DiVinci’s Priory.” (Hopefully, it was left with the same sense of humor you are now reading it. If you don’t have a sense of humor about popular cultural images regarding Jesus or Bigfoot, read no further.) But I think [...]
Tarzan Creator’s Grandson Dies
Tarzan of the Apes, the first book cover, 1914. In Mark Evanier’s blog, News From Me, he writes that Danton Burroughs, the grandson of Edgar Rice Burroughs and “a major force in keeping that man’s work alive,” died Wednesday evening, April 30, 2008, at his home in Tarzana, California. The suburb, of course, was named for his grandfather’s legendary creation. Danton Burroughs was 64. He was the son of John Coleman Burroughs, who was himself distinguished in the arts as a photographer and illustrator. Burroughs had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease, but the immediate cause of death was said to [...]
Latest Fake Bigfoot Video?
This is suppose to be a new – specifically taken on April 19, 2008 – video of a “Bigfoot sighting in a remote region of Transylvania County, North Carolina.” Instead, what I see is another video that is so faked, from the human in the suit to the less-than-clear wording describing it, I am shocked it is called a “Bigfoot sighting” vs what it is – a dramatic production staged for the camera. Bubba Cromer, who sent this to me, has produced a film that is good movie, which is a delightful comedy milestone in cryptofiction, but why are these [...]
