Peter Brown (above with the LB1 skull) passes along word that another Homo floresiensis volume is due out soon. The book is Little People And A Lost World: An Anthropological Mystery (ISBN: 0822559838) by Linda Goldenberg Atkinson. It targets the juvenile readership, at 112 pages, from the Lerner Publishing Group in their Twenty-First Century Books Series. Set to be published in September 2006, it will have a library binding. More information on Mike Morwood’s and Penny van Oosterzee’s new book, entitled The Hobbit’s Tale: Discovery, Significance and History of a New Human Species on the Island of Flores, Indonesia can [...]
Return of Abominable Snowmen
Sometimes it causes me a little tribulation to announce the reprint of a new book, and this is one of those times. Not because of the contents of the book, not because of the original author, and not even because of the price. No, sometimes, I have feelings about seeing good books republished too quickly as paperbacks, by publishers sometimes known for their loose editing and less than classic packaging. Hopefully, I will be mistaken about this one, but I won’t know until I see a copy to find out. Any day now, Adventures Unlimited Press (AUP) is set to [...]
Remove Ray Wallace’s Fake Photos
Ray Wallace lives on. Memorial Day weekend is a good time to reflect on the ones that have passed along, and notice their impact. Positively and negatively. It is also a time to renew the cry to remove the bad data, remove the fakery in our midst, remove the Wallace fake track photos from the Bigfoot books out there. Less than a month ago, another overview article in another Pacific Northwest newspaper decided to talk about Wallace: The best known local Bigfoot trickster was the late Ray Wallace, a Toledo man whose family said helped create the Bigfoot legend. In [...]
Hobbits Book Announced
Exclusive Be prepared for some books on Homo floresiensis. I just received the direct news from Mike Morwood (below), Professor of Archaeology, University of New England, Australia, the leader of the Flores on-site Homo floresiensis discovery team, that his book is on its way. He wrote saying he has completed a book with Penny van Oosterzee entitled The Hobbit’s Tale: Discovery, Significance and History of a New Human Species on the Island of Flores, Indonesia. Penny van Oosterzee is one of Australia’s best science writers, and is the recipient of the 1997 Eureka Science Book Prize for her book Where [...]
Cryptid Cats, Murdering Bigfoot, and Giant Claw
Need a cryptofix? How about trying some cryptofiction – via a new movie of a Mystery Felid, a new novel of a Maraudering Sasquatch, and a visual flashback at an old movie of a Giant Bird? Headlines on May 20, 2006, tell of “Giant Feral Cats to Scare on Screen”, and how they will appear through the device of a 1.5 million dollar movie. Shall our Australian readers see it first on a movie theater near you? The mystery big cat thought to prowl the Blue Mountains is set to star in a horror movie. A Sydney-based team will start [...]
Is Bigfoot a Homin?
Is it true that all hominids are hominoids but not all hominoids are hominids? Where do the pongids and anthropoids fall, as hominoids but not hominids? And what the heck is a homin? Who is on first, anyway? What are the various definitions of humanoid, hominoid, hominid, hominology, homin, anthropoid, and pongid? These jumble of words are loosely used when discussing Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Mawas, Almas, Yeti, Yowie, Orang Pendek, and a wide variety of hairy, upright or semi-bipedal humanlike cryptids. (See definition of cryptid here.) Can we sort out some basic definitions and understand some meanings for all of these [...]
Publisher Speeds Killer ‘Gators
There’s an interesting little note in Publishers Weekly this morning. In an item entitled “Forget Later, Alligator—Let’s Publish Now” by Lynn Andriani, we already can see the reaction to the gator attacks we discussed earlier, here and here. Cryptomundo addressed why such news is of interest, also in this link. Andriani writes: Publishers often speed up books’ publication dates if relevant news events—earthquakes, blackouts, mining accidents—take place. Now they can add alligator attacks to the list. Lyons Press, which planned on releasing Killer ’Gators and Crocs: Gruesome Encounters from Across the Globe by Michael Garlock in November, has moved the [...]
Another Malaysian Mawas Book With Photos?!!
Oh no, more hype on the Johor Mawas? My goodness, those Malaysian media folks are drumming up more interest in their local "Bigfoot" again. How dare they? Are they just trying to stir up folks at Cryptomundo? And now they are talking about two books? And is this a new cryptid name, Orang Lenggor? What’s up with all of this as we go six months deep into this story? Haven’t we been here before? Yes, but, hey, is there different information that exists in the news? Well, that’s why we are reporting on it here. A new article published on [...]

Thunderbird Film Discovered
Wisconsin writer and investigator Todd Roll has discovered an early forgotten, overlooked film that coincidentally appeared as a precursor to the famous Thunderbird flap in the 1970s. The movie was released in 1974, and entitled The Legend of Hillbilly John. Three years later, with the attempted airborne abduction of Marlon Lowe by two giant birds at Lawndale, Illinois, on July 25, 1977, the modern era of Thunderbird sightings began. The first investigator on the scene was my brother, Jerry, and the first write-up of the case came from his rough notes in Creatures of the Outer Edge. Based on a [...]
