“Scoftic” has to be the most ridiculous word in the current lexicon of Bigfoot research.Nightwing, November 2006 “Scoftic” – a Roger Knights neologism.Matt Crowley, September 2005 Sometime before the fall of 2003, Roger Knights, a frequent comment maker on all matters Bigfoot, decided to coin a word that he felt would be a counter to words like “pseudoscience.” According to his own accounting, Knights first used “scoftic” on the Bigfoot Forums on September 13, 2003. No, it was not a Friday, but the date in the old Roman festival calendar is epulum Iovis (“banquet of Jupiter”), on the Ides, during [...]
Patterson’s Old Woman Bigfoot
One of the subjects that often is debated is whether Roger Patterson based a supposed and alleged staging of a filmed hoax of a female Bigfoot on his idea of what a female Sasquatch might look like. And did he show his hand in his only book? In Patterson’s Do Abominable Snowmen of America Really Exist? (self-published in 1966), he drew the “old woman,” the seemingly more mature female Sasquatch seen by Albert Ostman, as shown, near Toba Outlet, British Columbia in 1924. Here is the comparison between that sketch and the well-known black & white apparent public domain photograph [...]
Editor of Yeti Newsletter Arrested
April 18, 2007 Some Colorado campuses are raising security measures in the wake of Monday’s massacre at Virginia Tech and on the eve of the eighth anniversary of bloodshed at Columbine High School. The University of Colorado, the University of Northern Colorado and Boulder High School were investigating incidents Tuesday related to threats and potential disturbances. CU campus police arrested a student for investigation of interfering with staff members and students after he engaged in a heated discussion with classmates over the Virginia Tech rampage and said that he “would be capable of killing 32 people,” Cmdr. Brad Wiesley said. [...]
Kalanoro, Yeti and Lux
Images of hairy hominoids are popping up in all sorts of places. Harry Trumbore’s drawing (above) of Africa’s kalanoro, from The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates by Loren Coleman and Patrick Huyghe, inspired Peter Loh’s Kalanoro (below) in the Crypto-Man Comix, written by Scott Marlowe. Wildlife artist Richard Klyver, who spent seven years in Africa, has produced a new series of high-quality tee-shirts. His first one is an excellently accurate drawing of what the Abominable Snowman or Yeti probably looks like, as shown above. If you want to buy one or more of these limited edition tee-shirts [...]
Spring Skiing for Bigfoot in Maine: Cryptozoo News Updates
Today is April 5th. It seems like it should be spring outside, right? Believe it or not, some people think that because I live in Maine, I’m a resident of Canada. I get strange emails. Truth is, on this Thursday I feel like I’m in the Himalayas. This morning there is about a foot of snow that fell overnight in Portland, Maine. Today is the opening day for the cryptid-named Portland Sea Dogs baseball team, but, of course, that event has to be postponed. So, back to thoughts of cryptozoology…. Humans may be dealing with incredibly unbelievable Easter/Passover skiing in [...]
Brooding About Bigfooters
Sometimes I allow my thoughts to drift to trying to understand the “people” part of the Bigfoot quest. In my Bigfoot! The True Story of Apes in America (NY: Paraview Pocket – Simon and Schuster, 2003), I wrote Chapter 15, “The Bigfooters” to detail my thoughts on the matter of the why and the what of the searchers. I added historical and people-specific notes to this matter in my more casual analysis of the folks “looking” for Bigfoot in The Field Guide of Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates and Tom Slick: True Life Encounters in Cryptozoology. In Bigfoot!, I decided [...]
Wanted: One Yeti Costume
Do you have an old Yeti costume knocking around your place, which you would loan out for free? Or even a Bigfoot suit that an actor might use for six weeks? An off, off, off Broadway play in New York City wants to talk to you. The Phoenix Theatre Ensemble is mounting a production of On The Verge. In the play, a Yeti appears. It’s a brief but strikingly memorable scene. However, they are a shoestring production and they quickly discovered that such a costume is very expensive to make or rent from a typical costume outlet. So they are [...]

Update: Bigfoot Is Back
New historical photographs of the former “Crookston Bigfoot” have been sent to me from the artist who created it. BTW, the big guy’s finally back home in Maine. The photo above is an image of the Bigfoot standing near the RBJ’s Restaurant in Crookston, Wisconsin, with the owner and her staff. As you can see, the Bigfoot actually was kept outside, and the nice effect of the wind blowing through its hair gave the beast an “alive” feeling. However, eventually, being inside, away from the harsh effects of the weather, seemed better for it as it grew older. As you [...]
“We…evolved from larger breasts.”
The representation of an almasty based on some eyewitness reports. Everyone is talking about the new video out of British Columbia. Even “Page Six.” Here’s a snippet from today’s Canadian version of the gossip column: A new video has hit the web showing two brothers being caught off-guard by a dark humanoid creature in a forest near Tofino, B.C. Was it a Sasquatch? Was there any Kokanee nearby? The sightings still happen year after year. Fact or fiction? Page Six was out and about to ask folks if they believe there are Sasquatches e-like creatures — roaming undetected throughout the [...]
