Sometimes those who pass away in the Bigfoot community are friends beyond headlines and television shows. One such individual who has died is Erin Rebecca Brotherton Begin. Rebecca Begin was 43, when she died suddenly on Wednesday, July 6, 2016.
Rebecca Begin, who many people in the Bigfoot field knew, studied at Texas Tech University; lived in Lantana, Texas; hiked throughout the Rockies; and worked as a snowboard instructor at the Vail Resorts. She was a fan of Tom Yamarone’s Bigfoot songs, and appears to have gone to the Ohio Bigfoot Conference in 2010.
Yarmarone writes, after reading this: “Thank you for writing this piece. Rebecca & Shawn shared the Ohio Bigfoot Conference with Bob G., Mark Stenberg, Terry Smith and myself in May 2010. We had a wonderful time. She and Shawn also attended 2 or 3 California Redwoods Expeditions with the BFRO. I was on one of those. I had no idea what happened until I read your article. It is such a shock….She was indeed a Ray of Sunshine and a dear friend.”
Thank you again.
Craig Woolheater, Texas Bigfoot conference organizer, says: “Yes, sad news indeed. I first met Rebecca and her sister Shawn when they attended the Texas Bigfoot Conference in 2007 or 2008. They were also at Toby Johnson’s Oregon Symposium a year or two later.”
Her husband Pascal announced her death quietly on Facebook. Here is what he shared:
Hello Everyone! This is Pascal Begin, Rebecca’s husband. Glad I was able to hack Rebecca’s Facebook page so I can express my gratitude towards everyone that has been so supportive during these hard times.Thank you to everyone for posting all the nice thoughts and comments about Rebecca and for being present with our family. Her passing was very unexpected and simply stunned everyone.Rebecca was an absolute Rock to her family. She put her family first everyday and made sure her kids (…and husband) were taking care of and didn’t need anything. Rebecca was like a ray of sunshine anywhere she went. If you had a down day, she would pick you up and make you laugh without asking anything in return. People would always noticed Rebecca, let alone because she was absolutely beautiful and gorgeous but also because her personality would light up any room. Her magnetic charm and caring nature would make anybody gravitate around her, she was so much fun to hang around exchanging stories or simply hangout in silence. It’s with a heavy heart that I say that Rebecca will be greatly missed. We will be having a ceremony for Rebecca in Vail, Colorado, on Saturday August 13th. If you were a friend of Rebecca, you are invited!! We will meet at 10:30 am at Booth Falls trail head in East Vail (10:45 am start) and hike up to the first water fall where we will have a ceremony in her honor. Rebecca loved hiking and Booth Falls was one of her favorite. Maxime, Annabelle and myself are looking forward seeing everyone from the Vail Valley!!p.s. As this was Rebecca’s Facebook page, I will leave it open for friends to keep posting messages. I will not be adding anymore posts to the page (maybe a couple before the August Ceremony)….Thank you again so much for all of your support, you have been greatly appreciated by the Family.Pascal Begin
I asked Pascal Begin for further words to share about Rebecca with the Bigfoot community. Here is parts of his email to me:
Thank you for the kind words and comments, your support is greatly appreciated.Rebecca passed away unexpectedly this past Wednesday [July 6, 2016] from what the doctor believed was an aneurysm. It happened without any warning signs. Our two children, Max and Annabelle are very strong and [I] couldn’t be prouder.…We had a Life Ceremony in her honor. We will have another ceremony in Colorado in August up in the mountains where she loved to be.The extent of her Bigfoot research, from what I am aware of, she went on a handful of expeditions up in the Redwoods with others. She loved the publications of Dr. Meldrum and owned a few footprint casts. I believe she would agree when I say, she never intended to scientifically further the research of Bigfoot as much as she was a huge enthusiast of Bigfoot and always wanted to grow her knowledge of Bigfoot.Rebecca will greatly be missed by anyone who knew her. She was 43.Thank you to the Bigfoot community for reaching out; she would appreciate the gesture.Pascal Begin, PGADirector of InstructionTimarron Country Club
