How Old Are India’s Giant Footprints?
Early Indian news reports seem to be linking the finding of "giant" footprints in India with the "Malaysian Bigfoot" media madness, and the the temporary closing of China’s Shennongjia Nature Reserve (or "Bigfoot Park" in some stories), the alleged habitat of the Chinese Wildmen or Yeren. But are the Indian reports clearly of an archaeological nature, and not about hominology? Inquiring cryptozoologists desire more exacting details! January 10th’s Silicon India report and yesterday’s Times of India news item are broadcasting the message that the giant footprints found in India are in some way related to a giant "Bigfoot" candidate. But [...]
Coelacanth Extinction?
Boing Boing has posted an intriguing entry on “Coelacanths in Danger” today. Who would ever have thought that the coelacanth, “rediscovered” in 1938 & 1952 (off Africa) and then, shockingly, “rediscovered” in 1998 (off Sumatra), would be the topic so quickly of them going extinct. As Boing Boing’s David Pescovitz observes: The coelacanth is a fish that was thought to have been extinct for the last 65 million years until it showed up in 1938 near South Africa. Apparently though, it’s really on the verge of extinction this time. Last year, 25 of them were accidentally caught in shallow-water nets. [...]
Media Watch: Blue-Eyed Snakes and Old Blobs

As cryptozoology becomes more popular, news alerts, newspapers, and websites are circulating old information, out-of-date data, and less-than-substantial "news" to capture cryptid-interested readers. And, no, I am not even talking about Pravda, the new Russian wild online contributor of stories that sound like they are straighten out of the World Weekly News! Some recent media examples go far to demonstrate what seems to be a too common occurrence these days. Okay, first there is the [...]

Bigfoot Hunt Turns Tragic on Brush Mountain, Pennsylvania
Searching for Bigfoot is not a recreational activity that should be taken lightly. Our thoughts and condolences to the families involved. We congratulate the local press for not using the often-employed “ridicule factor” in the reporting of this story. It should be a cautionary tale for anyone exploring areas that may experience adverse weather conditions. Near Greenwood, Pennsylvania, two individuals, Paul Diehl, 53, and Joe Quirin, 47, decided to go looking for Bigfoot on Brush Mountain. On Thursday, January 5, 2005, Mr. Diehl was found dead on an old fire trail, about a half-mile from Utah Road and LaSalle Lane. [...]
