You will observe in this Chinese talk show what appears to be black and white footage of the Yeren, the Chinese wildman. It is shown at the beginning and then later, with color. Do not be distracted by the stop-action colored re-creation of the famed sighting of a Yeren in the headlights of a military group.
The subtitles are no help for English-speaking viewers, but the images, illustrations, and hand gestures are all quite understandable in the context of what we know of Yeren encounters.
Here is an update from John Kirk:
I speak Cantonese so I have a reasonable command of Mandarin. In listening to the narration accompanying the Yeren footage I heard the narrator say that footage was from America and to be honest it looks to me like one of Ivan Marx’s films from the 70s. It is repeated a little later on in colour so it isn’t black and white.
(Interesting side note: American and European youth often wear teeshirts with Japanese and Chinese characters on them. It is intriguing to see a young Chinese eyewitness wearing a shirt with just the letter “K” on it. I wonder what the symbolic meaning is for that? Calvin Klein?)
