Great read as always, but want to add/point out that lots of places with “Devil” names around here (upper Midwest US) were given those names by the missionaries that came through and were not sites of evil juju, but were rather places sacred to my Anishinaabe ancestors and the other peoples indigenous to this area. In the none-too-subtle math of the missionaries, anything called sacred that wasn’t xtian must belong to the devil. Most famous in these parts is Devil’s Lake, ND which the Dakota people call Spirit Lake.
