Sometimes I start one place, go down a side road, end up elsewhere, and find my way back to say goodbye. The 1950s-1960s movie and television character actor Christian Drake, who played Trooper Ed Blackburn in the classic 1954 film Them!, has died at the age of 82. Is it a coincidence that I just flipped on my television to catch the last hour of this movie on cable? Bizarre! The film Them! was directed by Gordon Douglas, who would later be the director for Skullduggery, a fascinating 1970 cryptozoology film about the Tropi (pictured below), bipedal hairy hominoids, which [...]
Malaysia Media Promotes Web Mania
According to the Malaysia Star of Thursday July 13, 2006′s article, “Big draw for Bigfoot site,” it’s all about the numbers first, and the hominids second. In the piece by Nelson Benjamin of The Star, dateline Johor Baru, the reporter writes: A website dedicated to the Malaysian version of Bigfoot has created a buzz among enthusiasts of the enigmatic creature worldwide. The site (www.johorhominid.org), which has sketches of a ape-like beast and a hairy paw, has attracted some 16,000 hits. Vincent Chow, a Johor branch member of the Malaysian Nature Society, one of the two persons who developed the website, said [...]
Loh Down On Hominid
Artist Peter Loh thinks another revision to his drawing is in order based on Vincent Chow’s new sketch, above. Also Peter feels some explanations from his point of view are worthy of registering, regarding the Johor Hominid drawings he has submitted. This seems only fair, so here’s his say: Vincent is a great artist too, eh? Here’s my earlier drawing with some changes based on his drawing. Now, I’d like to voice some of my frustrations when making my sketches. Before I sent you the last drawing (the original version of the drawing below), I had wanted to change the [...]
Editorial: Release Johor Photos
The drawings by Vincent Chow and Sean Ang, at one level, are to be appreciated. At another level, they have caused further frustration and a growing level of impatience within the general cryptozoological community. Here is Cryptomundo’s Peter Loh drawing of the head of a Johor Hominid (then called Mawas) – the first drawing allegedly based on Chow’s photos – compared to a photograph of the head of an orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus), also called in Indonesia, mawas. As far as can be understood from the new stories being told, we now don’t know where these alleged Johor Hominid photographs were [...]
Johor Hominid Face?
Here’s the face drawn by Vincent Chow that everyone is talking about, allegedly drawn from the photographs that Vincent Chow has in his possession. This new one can now be compared to the two following drawings earlier sketched by Peter Loh. What is graphically shown is the great differences between the earliest head interpretation of what Vincent Chow says he saw in the photographs, and how it was suggested it be redrawn by Peter Loh, through Chow’s corrective feedback, plus now with those of Sean Ang’s. Obviously, the time is upon us to reveal and publish the photographs, instead of [...]
Johor Hominid Hand?
Sean Ang has published his “hand-traced” sketch of the Johor Hominid (see below): Click on image for full-size version James Pritchett, a critic of the ongoing situation with the Chow-noted photographs, comments: ….Sean Ang has now provided us with his long promised sketch of one of the photos. Actually, I should amend that: he’s given us a sketch of one small portion of one of the alleged photos….but prepare to be disappointed–unless you consider a sketch of a hand to be significant… What have we learned from this image? Are we merely left to ponder more questions? Does Peter Loh’s [...]
Bigfoot Captured in Cambodia in 2003? Exhibited Soon?
Safuan Abu Bakar says we all will be seeing a captured Johor-like Hominid soon. What is this all about? Have we vanished down the rabbit’s hole finally and found ourselves in a twilight zone we did not know about existed in Malaysia? New Straits Times Spot Light: Supernatural sightings? 09 Jul 2006 ———————————————————————— If a toyol is bothering you, or your neighbourhood is being terrorised by a jin, who do you call? No, not the ghostbusters but the P-Team. THEY are a team like no other and their members are made up of religious teachers and healers from Malaysia and [...]
Johor Hominid: What Do You Look Like?
Vincent Chow’s associate, Sean Ang, wrote the following on Friday, July 7, 2006: …we will publish a sketch based on the original photos, say by end of this week, latest next week. Vincent is working on one of the sketch now. I also intend to publish the close-up photo of the hair samples we have. Ang also said that photographs are “potential Pulitzer prize” caliber. Why, at this stage, the continued hyperbole? In transcripts of conversations on July 6th, with and shared by Jason Pritchett, Sean Ang noted that of the 14 reported photos, Sean has seen two individuals, both [...]
Pick Johor Pix Panel
Patience is a virtue. Patience and passion are two important components of cryptozoology research, as I have often mentioned, as per Bernard Heuvelmans. Speculations on the Johor Hominid have reached new lows and highs, from muddled discussions of “reverse evolution” to the creation of a new Peter Loh sketch (above) based on all the information available to a new website. But the time has come for a challenge to those saying they have more evidence. Based on a recent turn of events in the Johor Hominid or Malaysian Bigfoot situation, there are new reasons for people to feel frustrated and [...]
New Name Nominee: Johor Hominid
Environmentalist Vincent Chow and palaeoanthropologist Sean Ang, who are both involved in researching the question of unknown hairy hominoids in Malaysia, have created a website to focus their pursuit. The researchers have also, through the mere need to purchase a domain name, coined a phrase for their local Malaysian Bigfoot, capturing the notion they are elusive giant bipeds from a certain area, by terming them, specifically, "Johor Hominid." According to the New Straits Times, the website promotes the fact that the Johor Hominid phenomenon is "probably the most significant and mind-shattering discovery in anthropology." Vincent Chow, above, from an earlier [...]
