Lake Winnipegosis Monster Sighting

City and General. [excerpt] A Pine River correspondent of the Dauphin Press writes: For the second time within a month a sea serpent has been seen by fishermen on Lake Winnipegosis. Lake Elsinore Monster Yarn Bobs Up Again Elsinore – C. B. Greenstreet, rancher, today came to the aid of Southern California publicists, who have been chagrined during recent months for lack of a lake, sea or river monster. Greenstreet revived the Lake Elsinore monster, reported to have been seen from time to time since Indians roamed the country. He said: I know you think I’m crazy; but I saw it. We all saw it — my wife and two children, and my little girl was terrified and afraid to return to our home at the head of the lake. It [...]

August 10th: Lake Champlain Sea Serpent Seen

This is the Champ painting that began showing up on the sides of U-Haul vans in 1999. August 10th… Vermont Get Into Line Its Sea Serpent Story, Though a Little Late, Is All Right. The Lake Champlain sea serpent has been seen. And by an entirely credible and trustworthy witness, whose name, were we permitted to give it, would carry conviction to the most incredulous of doubting Thomases. The monster was seen, slowly swimming southward, about midway of the channel between the Vermont shore and Split Rock. The lake at this place is only about a mile wide. Here, too, [...]

Any New Tappie Sightings?

Has the manatee reached Poughkeepsie yet? The Amherst Times reported on August 8: Eleven years ago today, The Times ran a little piece about a male manatee who decided, for reasons unknown, to swim up the East River. Now, the manatee nation appears to have sent another emissary northward, though the sex of this one is unspecified so far. It was sighted several times in the Hudson River last weekend, along the piers in Manhattan and as far north as Sleepy Hollow. The northernmost location in New York, thusfar, for any sightings is 100 miles upstate from the Manhattan views. [...]

Storsie To Resurface

The forthcoming Storsjoyran Great Lake Festival on July 27-29, 2006, will have the local “president” Ewert Ljusberg of Jämtland making his annual speech to the region, again marked by a new imaginative and spectacular entrance. According to John Gammon’s June 17, 2006, Pollstar article, the idea is to top last year’s stunt: In 1996 [Ewert Ljusberg] rode in on a seven-ton elephant, which was making a guest appearance while en route from a Spanish to a Swedish circus, but he topped that in ’99, when he tried to float down in a huge air balloon. He missed the main 20,000-capacity [...]

Meandrous Monster Migrates to Utah Lake

A week ago it was mentioned here that D. Robert Carter wrote an article in the Provo, Utah Daily Herald, entitled “Mysterious Monsters Inhabited Utah Valley Waters.” Today, Sunday, May 07, 2006, part two, "The Meandrous Monster Migrates to Utah Lake" has been published. The article gives a good overview. Also the possible mammalian nature of the Bear Lake Monster is reinforced with various passages recalled, as per this item extracted. A May 18, 1874, letter from William Budge, who lived in Paris, Idaho, told of a monster sighting on Bear Lake. Budge, William Broomhead, and Molando Pratt were returning [...]
