Get those holiday shopping list started. Here comes another wave of DVD releases in the Northern Hemisphere in the realm of cryptozoology programs. These latest are for September 2008. One of the Weird Travels episodes was filmed with the Texas Bigfoot researchers and include Craig Woolheater and Monica Rawlins getting screen time. The film crew was with members of Craig’s research group during his field operation, as well as spending time with Craig in Jefferson, Texas, and at Caddo Lake. The shooting also included a day trip to Fouke, Arkansas, to check into the local legend of the Fouke Monster. [...]

Volkswagen-Sized Catfish
Famed natural history artist Alexis Rockman painted the cover of the 2001 edition of Mysterious America depicting a real encounter he and his cryptozoology expedition associates had with a giant catfish in the Amazon. The new edition of Mysterious America contains a chapter on “Giant Catfish” sightings, which continue throughout North America and elsewhere in the world. These tales overlap with swamp monster encounters, lake monster ponderings, and weird animal happenings. Giant catfish do exist, which is a fact not in dispute. The question is how “giant” does “giant” get and where are they living today. In an article today [...]
Champ Enthusiast Off To China
Cryptozoology will soon have another friend in China. Champ enthusiast, Winooski (Vermont) native and Brandeis University student Eli Harrington will leave Friday, June 27, 2008, for an eight-week internship at Voice of America’s Beijing bureau and will likely report on activities at the Summer Olympics. Maybe he’ll report on the Yeren too? Or those mysterious Chinese lake monsters, in his spare time? The opportunity came together quickly, Harrington said. Brandeis encourages internships and work experience, and one of his professors mentioned Harrington, 20, to a former colleague who worked for Voice of America. After a few phone interviews, he was [...]
Cryptid Giant Snake Shot & Sank
Chad Arment, author of Boss Snakes: Stories and Sightings of Giant Snakes in North America, passes along this intriguing new case. The python [sic - no actual scientific identification occurred] snake that was spotted on Lake Sinclair [Georgia, USA] earlier this spring [2008] was killed by a Putnam County Sheriff’s Department deputy last Thursday [apparently June 12th, 2008; as June 19th, probably would have been referred to as "yesterday"]. The deputy shot the snake three times with a shotgun and the creature then sank to the bottom of the lake. No pictures were taken. Repair crews were in the Twin [...]
Seeking Searle: Nessie Hunter
Frank Searle and Lieve Peten For years I searched for Frank Searle, the Loch Ness Monster hunter. Finally, I found him, but it was too late, and instead, had to write an obituary, noting “Nessie Seeker Frank Searle (1921-2005) Dies.” Recently, repeats of a documentary The Man Who Captured Nessie, directed by Andrew Tullis and released on December 29, 2005, have been broadcast on Scottish television. While trying to relocate my obituary on Frank Searle, I have discovered it has disappeared from the Internet. So here, to revisit the legacy of this man, I republish my look at Searle, who [...]
Davies Replies to Selma Film Critics
Adam Davies (above) in Mongolia. The following is the video of the “Seljord Serpent” or Selma, which was taken at Lake Seljord, Norway, credited to Adam Davies and Andrew Sanderson. (Please click on image directly above for a larger sized version.) Extreme Expeditions’ Adam Davies replies to the comments, questions, and criticisms: Thank you to everyone who has commented on the Seljord Serpent footage so far. To answer a few basic questions: 1/ The footage is shaky because Andy was stood up in a boat when he took it. It’s shot on a hand held camera. We had hardly any [...]
The Secret Selma Footage
Extreme Expeditions author Adam Davies’ just-released footage of the “Seljord Serpent” or Selma is actually secret footage that has never been released before. (See my previous blog on this sterling example of blobdracontology, here.) Jan-Ove Sundberg of the Swedish group GUST writes: The Selma video you now write about at Cryptomundo was taken on our expedition to Lake Seljordsvattnet in 1999. That Adam & Co. took it has been kept a secret by them until now, but GUST have published many articles about the video. See this feature [which is in Swedish] published in 2005 (I have taken no less [...]
Tsuchinoko: 100 Million Yen Reward
Times have been rather hectic lately with the recent news of the Bigfoot “massacre” theory, the Bigfoot trail camera photo prize, and the Pepie challenge money. Therefore, I did want to acknowledge an item published over at the Pink Tentacle a few days ago. The essay was entitled “Seven Mysterious Creatures of Japan”. It is worth your reading, especially if you are not familiar with the Hibagon (unknown anthropoid), Kusshii (lake monster), Isshii (lake monster), Giant Snake of Mt. Tsurugi, Takitaro (giant fish), Kappa (merbeing, shown above), and Tsuchinoko. Specifically, I wished to point to the Tsuchinoko paragraphs, as a [...]
