Maine Mystery Beast Back?
Two major attacks in which over 26 sheep have been killed in central coast Maine have occurred. These killings have taken place in a pasture in Wiscasset, Maine, over the last weekend and on Monday, June 3-5, 2007. Read full details here. Dogs are being blamed, at the moment, but hair samples and bite marks are being examined to make a better determination of what animal or animals are behind these attacks. Two New Wolf Species
New research indicates there are two distinct and separate Indian wolf species, Canis himalayensis and Canis indica. Conservative Media Attacks New Species Discoveries
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), a rather conservative newspaper in the United States, for Saturday, May 19, 2007, parrots the UK’s The Economist, reinforcing the challenge to the concept that we are in the midst of a wave of new species being discovered. In the WSJ‘s section “Informed Reader” obviously editorialized thumbnail sketches are given of other newspapers’ recommended articles. Under “Nature,” a new article in The Economist is mentioned.
