Word has reached Cryptomundo of the death of one of the major Midwestern figures researching the question of the reality of pumas existing in Missouri. Dave Hamilton (left), Missouri Conservation Department Resource wildlife biologist, is showing examining a 105 pound puma found killed on Highway 54 shortly before midnight August 11, 2003, near Fulton, Missouri. Discovery of dark spots on its flanks and hindquarters, and barring on the inside of its front legs caused Hamilton to change his mind from this being an older puma to a finding it was a year-and-half or year old animal. The Fulton animal was [...]
Sasquatch’s Sagittal Crests
I know I’ve gone over some of this before, but all this talk about the Patterson-Gimlim footage for the 40th anniversary seems to be stirring up a need to revisit it. It seems rather unbelievable to me that I’m hearing again that only “male gorillas have sagittal crests” and this is being used as a reason to discount the Patterson Bigfoot footage. Paranthropus, my fossil candidate choice for Bigfoot, had sagittal crests in both genders. Paranthropus sp. image courtesy of skullsunlimited.com I take the stance that Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Oh-Mah, whatever you wish to call the classic Neo-Giants of the Pacific [...]
Who Walks The Walk?
Let’s see. Years + pounds + copycat behavior = not really close, despite the best efforts at imitation:
Bluff Creek Tracks, 1967
Roger Patterson filmed the footprints of the Bigfoot – and apparently his own, as well:
McCone Creature Mystery Continues
Has the Shunka Warak’em of McCone County, Montana returned? And in what belief system do thoughts of “manipulated breeding” carry any truths to explain such incidents? Dave Loos tackles the news from Montana with perfect prairie prose that hits at the edgeness of this enigma: A mystery predator responsible for 12 sheep deaths in Eastern Montana last month could be connected to the dozens of similar attacks in late 2005 and early 2006, which some officials blame on a domestic hybrid species of wolf. Montana’s top wolf official said this week that two suspicious animals remain on the loose in [...]
Finally, Real Proof of Sasquatch
Merci to Jean luc Drevillon for the suggestion. Placed here, for those in need of a break from the other thread.
Hobbit Wrists and Jurassic Feathers
A comparison of wrist bones like those found in the “hobbit” human (left) and those of a modern human suggest that the diminutive hominin is a unique species, scientists say. Image © Science It is one of those busy news days, especially in terms of fossil updates. The two big fossil discovery news items are primate and aves related, and of interest to Cryptomundo. One is the new Science report that a study of the wrist bones of Homo floresiensis confirms it is a new species, and not an abnormal human. The other finding is that there were feathers on [...]
Loren Coleman Update
It did seem like time to brush the rust off that little corner of Cryptomundo. FYI. My biographical information at Cryptomundo has been updated, here. The bio details had not been changed since I joined Cryptomundo a few years ago. I’m beginning to feel a gallery of all the comic book images that artists have created should be gathered in one collection and linked to that bio site. But I have to go on to the cryptozoo news today, and I just don’t have time for everything. Here I am engaged in cryptoconchology, the study of the shelled hidden or [...]
Expedition: New Orang Pendek Discovery
Adam Davies is shown with a 2004 cast of an Orang Pendek track. Courtesy BBC News. Davies has good news from his latest expedition efforts in search of this hidden primate. Adam Davies has returned from his pursuit of the Sumatran Orang Pendek, having been gone from September 2 through his return today. In conjunction with a History Channel documentary, Davies was there with British photographer Jeremy Holden, who has worked with Debbie Martyr in the past. Davies just back from the rainforest, forwards his quick update to me: The expedition was a huge success. I picked up an Orang-Pendek [...]
The Best Evidence: Patterson-Gimlin Footage
In one month, it will have been 40 years since Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin had their incredible encounter with an apparently female Bigfoot at Bluff Creek, California, on October 20, 1967. The resulting footage is the best piece of evidence we have for a population of unknown, bipedal primates – most often known as Sasquatch or Bigfoot – that lives, allegedly, in the wilderness areas of North America. Why do I think the encounter’s resulting footage is authentic? I feel it brings forth many forms of evidence: 1. The event occurred in an area known for Native traditions of [...]
