What Is It? “Braxton Beast” Photo Mystery A startling new camera trap photograph of what appears to be an unknown bipedal creature has been shared with Cryptomundo by a reader. Taken literally days ago, the West Virginia photograph of the “Braxton Beast” was “captured” in a county with a well-known history of bizarreness. The Cryptomundo correspondent, a 27-year-old gentleman, Frederick B. Gerwig, sends along this information in his initial email to me earlier this week: “Here is a picture that my father’s wildlife camera (motion activated) took around 12/07/05. We are not sure what it is, but it doesn’t look [...]

More on Borneo’s New Animal
Possible Identification Proposed: The Rediscovery of an Extinct Species The new animal from Borneo does somewhat match another camera trap "mystery creature" photographed by Malaysian wildlife specialists, and pictured directly below. This gave me a hint of what the “new” animal might be. Take a peek… Photo credit goes to the Wildlife Conservation Society, Upper Baram Project, Malaysia. This organization obtained an interesting series of camera trap photos in 2004 on the unlogged areas of Mount Murud Kecil, Sarawak. One is of this slender unknown civet, shown above, with a very long tail, pale underparts and white around the muzzle, [...]

New Animal Discovered in Borneo
What do you think this looks like? There is exciting news out of Borneo. A new red-furred animal larger than a domestic cat has reportedly been discovered on this remote island of Indonesia. The new carnivore was found in [...]

"America goes cryptozoology crazy" So asked Wired News, through an introspective look in Mark Baard’s article, in which he wrote the simple but true words, "It’s a hot topic at the moment." Look back to just a year ago, to the discovery of the "hobbits" of Flores Islands, as the media called them, when Henry Gee, the editor of Nature wrote in October 2004: “The discovery of Homo floresiensis makes it much more likely that stories of other mythical, human-like creatures are founded on grains of truth. In the light of the Flores skeleton, a recent initiative to scour central [...]
Indispensable Cryptozoological Tool
What might be one of the most indespensable tools for a cryptozoologist to own that is easily available to most investigators? What are we to do about that old cliche, “Oh, if I only had a camera with me when I saw that thing.” Mark Rollins, a New England environmental health and safety manager, has a suggestion. Rollins is the artist who did the detailed maps you will find in The Field Guide to Lake Monsters, Sea Serpents, and Other Mystery Denizens of the Deep and several of the illustrations and the cover for the 2004 book Thunderbirds: America’s Living [...]
