Stream of consciousness cryptozoology? Connect the dots romantic zoology? Twilight language hominology? Have you ever chosen a date, pondered, wondered, and seen where it took you? Let’s begin with January 30th, for example, and see where we go today. Let me examine first this curious little book entitled Bigfoot: Tales of Unexplained Creatures. It was published in 1978. Were you around in 1978? Do you recall the booklet’s investigator, a guy named Dennis Pilchis? Pilchis’ little organization existed in Rome, Ohio, and was called Page Research Library. His group privately published this thin strange book, Bigfoot: Tales of Unexplained Creatures, [...]
Crypto: A Personal Journey
Craig Heinselman, who turns 33 in May, was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and became interested in nature mysteries when still a boy in the early 1980s. Heinselman, now a father and resident of New Hampshire, made a sudden appearance in cryptozoology circles in 1998. He first shared a free newsletter CRYPTO, dealing with the study of hidden animals and, a special interest of his, cryptofiction, at conferences and through the mails. The newsletter ended in 2001, with the publication of Volume 4, No. 1. Then during 2001 and 2002, he published some special issues, entitled Special Dracontology Issue I, [...]
Eastern Cougar Mysteries
On display at Harvard’s Museum of Comparative Zoology: The verified casts (one shown above, the other below) of credible eastern cougar tracks found in Massachusetts in 1990. Naturalist Helen McGinnis’ of the Eastern Cougar Foundation, during January 2007, has raised some questions about the above during their “Project Hoax.” A Mystery Melanistic Felid captured on film in Florida turned out to be a black bobcat. Helen McGinnis, in the late 1970s, gathered evidence and privately published her findings in papers widely distributed to cryptozoologically-minded associates saying she thought upwards of 40% of the mystery cats in that state were melanistic. [...]
Yeti Tee-Shirt Fund
Wildlife artist Richard Klyver, who spent seven years in Africa as well as other natural locations around the world, has produced a new series of high-quality tee-shirts. His first one is a remarkable drawing of the Abominable Snowman or Yeti, as shown above. Richard Klyver is going to kick off his selling of these tee-shirts via this announcement at Cryptomundo. In support of the computer fund and the International Cryptozoology Museum, he is generously donating $2.50 from the sale of each tee-shirt. If interested in purchasing, please contact Klyver at windigo2@myfairpoint.net to talk to him about PayPal or snail mail [...]
Ropen Expedition ‘07
Click on the Ropen for a larger version. No scale was given for this drawing. As we have learned, the “Destination Truth” team is on a filming trek in Asia. Here is another insight into the expedition’s point-of-view and cryptid focus as they pursue the Ropen in Papua New Guinea: I was interviewed by Neil Mandt a few weeks ago as he was preparing for the expedition (this kind of excursion should only be done after consulting with someone who has been in Papua New Guinea, searching for the Ropen and/or eyewitnesses). At first, suspicious – the “Fi” of “Sci-Fi [...]
Lake Cryptid Video
Here is the Norwegian so-called “Sea Serpent” (apparently a Lake Monster?) video footage. Please see the previous post here for the background details. What do you think?
Dragons on NPR
Click on image for full size version Rick Kleffel, Fortean and editor of The Agony Column, has broadcast an audio report on National Public Radio (NPR) about dragons. It can now be accessed for listening by clicking here on “Dragons Get a Modern Image Makeover.” The description of the program notes: All Things Considered, January 27, 2007 · Old maps bore the scary legend “here there be dragons.” These days dragons aren’t so scary. In countless books and movies, they’re portrayed as loving companions to the humans that ride them. I’ve added visuals here for Cryptomundo readers so you’ll have [...]
SF Sea Serpent Video
This illustration (above) from the early 1800s’ sighting of a Sea Serpent off the coast of New England is compared with a video capture (below) from the Clarks’ 2004 Sea Serpent videotape taken off of California. Sea serpent? Dolphins? Water birds? The Clarks have done a great deal to secure the analysis of their video. Bob and Bill Clark have received and are now sharing stabilized portions of their San Francisco Bay sea serpent video. (An uplink will be shared here if a format for the internet if available.) Please find here the link to their pdf attachment which contains [...]
New Wounded Knee Sightings
The Oglala Sioux Pine Ridge Reservation was the site last year of several close encounters with what appeared to be a large Bigfoot (often called “Big Man”). There’s news from sources at Wounded Knee, a few miles from Pine Ridge, that a new wave of activity has begun. It is my understanding there have been finds of footprints in freshly fallen snow, and at least five sightings describing a 7-8 ft tall, thick hairy man with no face and long hair as it would sway with the wind. One reported Bigfoot took a special interest in a pole yard light [...]
Where To Dig For Hobbits
What’s wrong with this drawing? (The answer is below.) Homo floresiensis, the “Hobbits” of Indonesia have been in the news again lately. This week it was announced that the dig will start up anew at the same cave where all the previous discoveries have been made on Flores. First, a flashback: How important and significant is the discovery of this species to cryptozoology? The editor of Nature, Henry Gee, in a 2004 editorial entitled “Flores, God and Cryptozoology,” wrote: The discovery that Homo floresiensis survived until so very recently, in geological terms, makes it more likely that stories of other [...]
