Due to the difficulties uploading images in the last few days, here finally are two cartoons about the latest hairy matters in Malaysia: These comic images are regarding the recent news item printed about the current situation in Johor. Much appreciation to Peter Loh for creating this exclusive cartoon for Cryptomundo.

Sadie Hawkins Day Bigfoot
Today is one of the rare events in human time-space history, a catch-up day, February 29th. Happy Sadie Hawkins Day! According to English law, February 29th was ignored and had no legal status. Therefore, it was the one day when women could ask someone to marry them. This practice was first documented in 1288, when Scotland passed a law that allowed women to propose marriage to the man of their choice in that year. They also made it law that any man who declined a proposal in a leap year must pay a fine, such as a kiss to money [...]
One Week to 10,000 BC!
It is only one week until 10,000 BC opens and is in theaters nationwide on March 7th, 2008. Mammoths roaming the screen. Saber-toothed tigers jumping your way. And other surprises awaiting you. And prizes you can win here! I’ve already mentioned the film here, run the trailer, and frankly told you I am a shameless big pre-fan of the forthcoming movie 10,000 B.C.. Now I’m happy to announce some more insights about the film and, for those paying close attention, some cool movie promotion giveaways you can get exclusively through Cryptomundo. More about that in a minute. First, some new [...]
Hillary Yeti Expedition Member Dies
American ornithologist Melvin Alvah Traylor Jr., 92, has died. He was among the members of the 1960 World Book Encyclopedia Scientific Expedition to the Himalaya led by Sir Edmund Hillary. Melvin Traylor (December 16, 1915 – February 11, 2008) was the son of famed Chicago banker Melvin Alvah Traylor and Mrs. Dorothy Y. Traylor. Traylor was a Lieutenant with the US Marines and served on Guadalcanal during World War II in 1942 where he was awarded with the Silver Star medal. As a Marine Corp officer, Traylor was severely injured during the Battle of Tarawa in the Pacific theatre, where [...]
Felix the Cat & Yeti
Okay, this may be merely a Felix the Cat cartoon, but it also may be one of the worst illustrations of misrepresentations in comic history. This cartoon with Felix the Cat and the Abominable Snowman is from 1958. How many misstatements and mistakes do you see in it? (No, I’m not really upset. I’m just playing along with some kind of mock insult to our cryptozoological legacy.) Some of the errors I caught are: – Abominable Snowmen at the North Pole (the Arctic) – They actually are reported to live in the montane valleys of the Himalaya and cross the [...]
Disturbing Big Cat Videos
The large felid exhibition has reopened, but a cloud of “why” still floats over the death of a young man killed during a tiger attack at the San Francisco Zoo. Videos such as the following are disturbing, because they give the illusion that “wild animals” are friendly. How can we teach children to enjoy zoos but realize the animals there are dangerous and still untamed with videos like these circulating? Does the tiger attack in San Francisco make sense, at some level, in the context of a society that treats big cats as nothing more than giant pets? [Cryptomundo has [...]
Pike Place Mystery
Bones Found near Pike Place Not Human by Jim Valley, 710 KIRO Reporter The King County medical examiner’s office says bones found near the Pike Place Market in Seattle are not human. An investigator said Wednesday an anthropologist made the determination, but didn’t say what kind of bones they were. They were found with seashells Monday by workers in the crawl space of the Virginia Inn. A half dozen members of the Duwamish Tribe, who had suspected the bones were human, held a ceremony at the market, playing drums and singing an “honor song” to ancestors. Tribal chair Cecile Hansen [...]
Ural Mystery
Mysterious Deaths of 9 Skiers Still Unresolved by Svetlana Osadchuk, The St. Petersburg Times. Nine experienced cross-country skiers hurriedly left their tent on a Urals slope in the middle of the night, casting aside skis, food and their warm coats. Clad in their sleepwear, the young people dashed headlong down a snowy slope toward a thick forest, where they stood no chance of surviving bitter temperatures of around minus 30 degrees Celsius. Baffled investigators said the group died as a result of a compelling unknown force and then abruptly closed the case and filed it as top secret. The [...]
Johor Bigfoot Back?
“A Malaysian Laugh” is a regular column by The Malaysian Insider humorist Jerome Martin. As the newspaper says: “If you don’t find it funny, we are happy to get your feedback so we can pay him less.” Today, they published a new column on how the forthcoming elections in Malaysia look through the eyes of their Johor Bigfoot. I’m not sure if the humor translates well to the Western ear, but nevertheless, here’s what was said, in part, regarding: …the status of Bigfoot in the upcoming elections. Presumably, since they are said to be surviving fragments of a prehistoric ape, [...]
