A mainland Tasmanian devil sighting has been reported from Blackbraes National Park, 320 kilometres south-west of Cairns, Queensland, according to Mainland Devils’ Chris Rehberg. Neil Van contacted Mainland Devils to report an unusual black animal which he and a friend sighted at 9.30pm on Wednesday, the 2nd of July 2008. They were travelling along the Kennedy Developmental Road near the northern boundary of Blackbraes National Park in Queensland when they saw the dark coloured animal feeding on a road-killed wallaby. Says Van, “A mate and I saw a weird animal fairly close up … with the way it ran and [...]
Special In Aisle 13: Pygmy Rattlesnakes
Here’s what they are reading about in a Tasmanian paper early Tuesday morning… Man bitten by Walmart rattlesnake From correspondents in Miami [Florida, USA] July 08, 2008 09:33am A posionous rattlesnake hidden among leafy plants in the garden section of a Walmart store in Florida sprang out and bit a man who was shopping there. The man was taken to hospital after the 30cm pygmy rattlesnake bit him in the right hand while he was looking at the plants at the store in Pembroke Pines, Florida, about 50km north of Miami. “This is an isolated incident and we’re taking precautions [...]
Breaking: CHP Sighting of Monkey or Man-In-Monkey-Suit
The following is a scanner transcript noted on the California-based website rimoftheworld.net. It details a possible “monkey” or “man-in-monkey-suit” sighting. For those unfamiliar with “CHP,” it stands for the “California Highway Patrol.” Big Bear Lake is a four seasons resort community surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest, 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles. The distance between Devore, California, where Moe escaped, and this location, is about 50 miles across unforgiving terrain, forested areas, and through or around two other lakeside areas. The transcript goes from the most recent to the oldest part of the interactions. I have retained it [...]
World-Famous Thylacine Researcher Dies
Eric Guiler. Courtesy of Chris Rehberg. Tasmania’s and probably the world’s leading authority on Thylacines, Eric Guiler, has died. Dr. Eric Guiler, 85, died on Thursday, July 3, 2008, after six years of ill-health following a stroke. His friends are amazed he survived for this length of time, as the word from Australia and Tasmania immediately after his stroke was that he was “near death.” A little known fact, shared among a few cryptozoologists at the time, is that Guiler suffered his last stroke while out in the bush looking for Thylacine signs. It was feared he was going to [...]
Nonfiction Stephen King
Loren Coleman of Portland talks about cryptozoology, or the study of unknown and undiscovered animals, on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Fort Knox. (Bangor Daily News/Bridget Brown) Over the weekend, unbeknownst to me, the Bangor Daily News ran an online article about the conference being held up at Prospect, Maine. Here’s part of what they had to say online and in their newspaper today (I couldn’t help myself, however, as I’ve corrected the various wrong ways the paper spelled “Bigfoot”): Loren Coleman, often referred to as “Maine’s nonfiction Stephen King,” sat behind a table filled with models and artwork of [...]
Held Over: CZ Talks/Day Two & New Cryptid Leads
Glad to see so many readers of Cryptomundo at Saturday, July 5th’s talk at Fort Knox. The late arrival crowds were so big that cars were backed up for a couple miles to get into the place. For Sunday, July 6th, when it is predicted people tend to get there earlier and on time, I’ve been asked to stay over to present at noon. Thus, I will give another hour long talk, with a Q&A session, outdoors with lots of replicas, artifacts, props and exhibits from the Interational Cryptozoology Museum. [No more news on the Island Falls black panther report, [...]
The Chimp and the Nudists
Moe, file photo. Searchers investigated reports that Moe, the missing California-based chimpanzee, may have been spotted at nearby Deer Park Nudist Resort, though a manager there said she had heard nothing about any sightings. Tracks found near there were discovered to be too old. Which leads me to wonder, does that mean that some other chimpanzee or unknown anthropoid ape was around there before Moe escaped? “Friday, I was told he was seen down at the nudist colony,” one of the search organizers told the media. However, Deer Park Nudist Resort Office Manager Lea Bush said she had not heard [...]
New Black Panther Sighting: Maine
This is the look of the wooded areas along Rt. 2, near Island Falls, Maine. I’m now in northern Maine, and I’ve learned there’s been a new Mystery Cat sighting from up this way. An Island Falls restaurant owner said that he and his wife saw a panther cross the road in front of them, coming out from a field in an area locally called Barker Ridge, between Island Falls and Sherman, onto Rt. 2. The photograph above shows the area going up to May Mountain, which is northeast of the sighting area. May Mt overlooks Mattawamkeag Lake, which is [...]
Amomongo Hominoid Terrorizes Philippines
The amomongo (loosely, gorilla) is a creature of Philippine cryptozoology described as hairy, man-sized and ape-like with long nails. Terror is gripping residents of haciendas in Brgy. Sag-ang, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, Philippines, following the reported existence of a man-sized creature, who recently attacked two residents and disemboweled animals in the area. Elias Galvez and Salvador Aguilar reported to Mayor Alberto Nicor and the police that they were separately attacked by a “hairy creature with long nails,” on the nights of June 9 and 10, 2008, in Cabungbungan, Brgy. Sag-ang, La Castellana, Philippines. Aguilar who was able to escape from [...]
New Bigfoot Book: The Hoopa Project
The back cover seems to summarize the contents well. (Click on image for larger version.) I will give a review after a fully printed copy is received.
