A new species of rat that has practically no teeth and eats soft earthworms has been discovered.
The rat, given the scientific name Paucidentomys vermidax, is a type of shrew rat that lives on Sulawesi Island in Indonesia. This island is the same one that was the location of the second species of living coelacanth in 1998. This new rat is the first known rodent to lack cheek teeth.
The full journal entry on this new species can be found here.
