For weeks, on social media, the debate has been brewing, and actually has begun, via rumors, rumblings and rants about a new series being made by Gryphon Productions, with the Gulf Coast Bigfoot Research Organization (GCBRO), entitled Killing Bigfoot. The name says it all. The program’s pilot is scheduled to be aired by both the Destination America/Discovery Network in the USA, and OLN in Canada. It premieres in the US on October 24th and in Canada on October 29th.
An old friend of mine, executive producer Peter von Puttkamer, tells me, “We present both sides of the Kill/No-Kill debate – and John Kirk and Dr. Webb Sentell both make an appearance on behalf of the no-kill advocates. I originally pitched the show to the networks more than 5 years ago, but no one thought you could do a series only about Bigfoot at the time! But seems like the Big Hairy Guy is as popular as ever. Glad to see we’ve been singled out by a number of experts and network execs – as the “creator” of the Crypto-TV Genre – (post In Search Of in the 70s!) starring groups of Crypto Hunters: with Sasquatch Odyssey (1999) and Monster Hunters (2000-2) on TLC. I know you’ve certainly sung the praises of Sasquatch Odyssey over the years – and I really appreciate it!”
Of course, since the show has not been broadcast yet, no one really knows what it covers yet. The website Killing Bigfoot has covered the debate, showing both side.
In conjunction with the series, Peter has also produced what he thinks might be the “first Bigfoot Music Video.”
It stars a friend of Peter von Puttkamer’s, Jack Dempsey – out of Los Angeles – whose “How You Like Me Now?” is the theme song for Killing Bigfoot.
Jack Dempsey performs the entire song, alongside clips of the Killing Bigfoot show – with members of the GCBRO, including co-founder Jim Lansdale, co-founder Bobby Hamilton and the rest of the team.
