Mr. Perez Writes “not a threat it is a promise”

Sorry, but I have to pass this along, fyi. “dominick perez” – of Yarwen/baby Bigfoot infamy – writes on Sun 9/17/2006, saying “ATTN LOREN COLEMAN” – (with his profanities deleted): post a message on your site and tell your loser readers to stop hounding my tenant. these a******s show up drunk all hours of the night causing trouble. well, the one who showed up this morning felt my wrath. he’s in st. joseph’s regional medical center with two busted legs. an address on your site is my rental property. the tenant is an old lady with nothing to do with [...]

Kouprey Debate

One of the first photographs taken in the wild of the elusive kouprey. Kouprey (Bos sauveli), a wild forest-dwelling ox, was discovered in 1937. (Indeed, the kouprey is discussed as an animal of discovery in cryptozoology, on page 128, here.) The 250 or so living kouprey are located in northern Cambodia and apparently also in western Vietnam, southern Laos, and eastern Thailand. The few kouprey found in Thailand, for example, were believed extinct for over two decades, and only rediscovered in the 1990s. In 1994, scientists began paying attention to lore about a possible second species of kouprey, a smaller [...]

Steller’s Sea Cow Sighting?

This old print of the Steller’s Sea Cow may be made full-size by clicking it. Could an animal that supposedly went extinct in 1768 still be in the waters of the Pacific? Sirenians are vegetation-eating mammals, which have completely adapted to living in water. In the fossil record, there is evidence of more than a dozen species, but today Sirenia consists of just four species–the West Indian Manatee (Trichechus manatus), the Amazon Manatee (Trichechus inunguis), the West African Manatee (Trichechus senegalensis), and the Dugong (Dugong dugon)–and two subspecies, the Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris) and the Antillean manatees (Trichechus manatus [...]

Maine Mutant Invades Massachusetts?

Mystery animal found roaming WILMINGTON — The town appears to be home to a mystery creature, much like the dog-like animal that haunted Maine residents for months before being hit by a car last month. A Lloyd Road resident called police yesterday morning to report that his son “was almost attacked by what he believes to be a mountain lion” the previous night, according to police logs. The man described the beast as being “large” and “grey/white in color,” the logs note. The Animal Control Officer was notified of the incident, the logs say. Monsterfest

The “Monsterfest” is being held this year. The information I passed along this week here, noting nothing was planned, I’ve been informed, was out-of-date. The Mothman Festival will not be the only “monster-related” gathering taking place during this weekend in September in West Virginia. Here’s the local chamber of commerce’s announcement: Braxton County Monster Fest: September 16, 2006. Flatwoods, West Virginia. Celebrate the legend of Flatwoods with a drama, live music, dancing, a jungle safari, a masquerade dance and history. Arts and crafts available with sidewalk sales at the Flatwoods Factory Stores. Hours are 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. For [...]

Enhanced Mystery Pix

These versions (above) of the enhanced original photograph (below) by brineblank shows support for the "deer" camp. What would other enhancements demonstrate? Or is it a felid, like the caracal above? Or canid, like that dog running across your road? Is this photograph the "Mystery Animal" seen for decades in West Virginia’s Potomac Highlands? This picture was taken by an automatic digital camera set on private property in a 3000 acre wilderness in which no human inhabitants live. It was caught on film on August 8, 2006 at 0700 Hours. Since the original owners do not want to become embroiled [...]
