As important as he became as a scientist, he never stopped being the boy who came home for dinner with a frog in one pocket and a crawfish in the other. His love of all marine life was both infectious and inspiring.Paul G. Haaga Jr, museum board member recalls John E. Cruisin’ the Sasquatch Highway

In a review of this week’s transportation news, I note the names of a couple of my favorite unknown hairy hominoids, who remain on the fast track to a deeper legacy in popular culture. During a caravan tour of the proposed Sasquatch Highway route back in 2003, British Columbia Representative Barry Penner (in the purple vest at right) and Mayor Sylvia Pranger (center), District of Kent, examine a natural hot spring on the north end of Harrison Lake, while BC Hydro’s community relations manager, Terry Parsons (far left) and Fraser Valley Regional District Chair Terry Raymond look on. NY Beavers Are Back

North American beavers have returned to New York City for the first time since the animals left the region about 200 years ago.Biologists said the beaver’s return to New York is a testament to both the adaptability of the animals and the success of the cleanup effort at the Bronx River, where the animal’s habitat was discovered, The New York Times reported Friday. Multiple beaver sightings were reported in fall 2006, but biologists said the reports were written off as native muskrats confused for the similarly-sized mammals. However, a group of biologists investigating the claims discovered evidence of a beaver [...]

To create life, to move it up and down the evolutionary path… that’s something. Something I don’t think you quite appreciate, Tom.“Dr. Simond Trent,” Curse of the Swamp Creature The plot to Curse of the Swamp Creature is about as simple as the movie. Deep in the rural swamps of east Texas the mad Dr. Simond [...]

Yeti and The Number 23

Virginia Madsen stars in The Number 23, opening in the USA on February 23, 2007. As reported in promotional interviews about the movie, Madsen was asked: “How did you learn about the number 23 phenomenon? Virginia, had you heard of the phenomenon?” Yes, because I think all that stuff is really fun, the shows on the Discovery Channel about ghosts and the Yeti and UFOs, which I totally believe in, so I’d heard about it. But I didn’t know how vast it was until really the first day of production. I’d sort of been online and I came in and [...]
