April 10, 2006, marks the world premiere of Abominable, in New York City. The almost-straight-to-DVD horror flick is directed and produced, respectively, by the husband-wife team of Ryan and Theresa Schifrin.
The Abominable debut (no pun intended, I think) will take place as part of Fangoria’s Monster Mondays screening series at New York City’s Two Boots Pioneer Theater (155 East 3rd Street and Avenue A) at 7 p.m. Click at the Fangoria site for more about advance tickets.
Before the DVD comes to a store near you, Abominable first will also appear in limited theatrical release in Los Angeles and Seattle on April 14. The film will then debut on the Sci Fi Channel May 20, with the DVD release following later in the summer.
According to what little is known about the film to date, the plot centers on the lore of Bigfoot. Of course, it features an injured mountain climber – stranded in a remote cabin – who must convince others that the Sasquatch exists before it strikes again and again and again, with the usual monster movie consequences. Obviously, it is based on a true story. Well, at least the part about trying to convince others that the thing exists probably is.
Be forewarned, this movie is graphic, as evidenced by this photograph. The star in that horror snapshot is former American Idol hottie, Ashley Hartman, who looks decidedly better on her own website, even with all her clothes on, here.
If you make it to an early screening, share your critique of what you saw, below, in comments. Or check back after it’s on the Sci Fi Channel in May, and tell us what you thought.
Please pass the popcorn and Milk Duds.
