There is no doubt about it. Tulum, Mexico, one of the famed habitats of the Aluxob, is beautiful and warm. Josh Gates kicks off the third season of “Destination Truth” with his on-site peek at the lore of these Proto-Pygmies.

Season Premiere Wednesday Sept. 9 at 10/9C.
The video does not give any hints of what is really going to be in the program.
Eyewitness Dan Gannon’s story is scheduled to “appear” in the Alux episode. DT seems to have learned of Gannon’s recent sighting from reading Cryptomundo (see here).
The Alux is a little hominoid reported in Latin America, which was first widely discussed in the cryptozoology literature in 1985 in my book Curious Encounters (from Faber and Faber) and then later in my and Patrick Huyghe’s field guide.
The Aluxob (plural Maya) are seen in the Yucatan, Mexico, mostly by the Mayans, but sometimes by Mexicans and United States tourists. I was there in the early 1980s, with my wife at the time and another couple. While camping and exploring, I was able to interview informants (Mayans & Mexicans), who had had firsthand sightings. Curious Encounters devotes a chapter to the lore, legends, and legacy of these Proto-Pygmies in that corner of the world.
Harry Trumbore’s drawing in The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates shows a typical Alux with long hair and elementary clothing. But some of the stylized sculptures at Tulum (above) give a graphic illustration of the small 2-3 feet tall beings under the site’s tiny archways.
