Siren Sighted In Hudson

Our friends over at The Anomalist have pointed out a cool out-of-place animal story, about a member of the Sirenia, that you will want to read. On a day like this, I feel good just looking at this photograph. TA points out that the Poughkeepsie Journal of August 2, 2006, is reporting a ten-foot long, 1000-pound manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris) has been sighted in the Hudson River near Manhattan, New York City. The Journal notes: Watchers tracked this one last month as it swam north — first near Delaware, then Maryland, then New Jersey. Saturday, it was seen at 23rd [...]

Eyes on Johor: New Drawing Linked to French Illusion

Interestingly, the day after Cryptomundo filed an update here on the void in the Johor Bigfoot photo situation, Sean Ang posted yet another drawing from the alleged photographs. My commentary on this new material follows an introduction of what has newly appeared. Part of what is being said follows: The above is a sketch based on Photograph labelled as JH002: Jogi. Both Photograph JH002 and JH003 belong to the same individual, probably a young adult female hominin. Whereas photograph JH001: Joman is a photograph of a full body of an adult male hominin, both JH002 and JH003 are closeup of [...]

Johor Bigfoot Photos: Still Nothing

Why is the Malaysian situation at such a stalemate? What the February Johor footprint (above) tells us grows more confusing, but, at least, it is in hand. As of the last day of July 2006, still no photographs of the unknown hairy hominoids reportedly taken in Johor, Malaysia, have been shown publicly, shared with the scientific community, or published. Drawings, yes, exist, but you will be spared seeing those again here. (You can find them by clicking “Malaysian Bigfoot” in the column to the right.) Vincent Chow and Sean Ang are using their site, once again, to leak more details [...]

Real Monsters of Madagascar

Kevin Fitzgerald, 55, a science writer for the Journal Inquirer of Manchester, Connecticut, and past contributor to Grzimek Encyclopedia of Animal Life and the New England Skeptical Society’s online “Encyclopedia of Skepticism,” is the guest blogger today. Fitzgerald wrote me commenting that he would like to expand on some thoughts regarding Madagascar’s animals, as his travels there had given him some firsthand insights that might be of interest to Cryptomundo readers. This is in reaction to the U. S. Navy SEALs account about seeing an animal in the Congo that looks like a supposed “ape” on Madagascar. Fitzgerald does not [...]
