I was sent the above article and I was sad to see that Craig Heinselman has been burned out again. Some people just can’t get any breaks. It is terrible to see that “bad luck” appears to be circling around him again.
It will be recalled that in 2003, Craig was diagnosed with brain cancer, then he suffered an accident in late 2004, causing him to walk with a cane. This was followed by both of his wife’s parents dying in 2005 and 2006; his own mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005; his father also had cancer that year; and finally, Craig lost 95% of everything when his home burned to the ground in May 2005. The fire destroyed his entire cryptozoology collection of casts, books, and publications. Everyone got out safely, but he had to start from scratch.
In “Crypto: A Personal Journey,” in 2007, I told of how things seemed to be turning around for Craig.
Craig had published his Crypto journal for a few years, beginning in 1998, and then published Special Dracontology Issue I, Special Hominid Issue I, and Special Hominid Issue II. Chad Arment has generously made these available for years, as pdfs. Click here and you can download them.
After all his troubles, then in 2007, Craig seemed to have made another comeback.
Craig had completed his compiled and edited massive opus, Elementum Bestia.
But now this news. This is just sad and shocking.
I’ve tried to get ahold of Craig, but he’s staying with relatives and out of touch. I guess if he’s reading this, he should know that we all wish him well, and if there’s anything we can do, please get in touch. He has many friends at Cryptomundo.
I understand he may have had to move away from cryptozoology in recent years, but his friends in cryptozoology are still hoping for the best for him. We can always pass the hat for him again, and send along duplicates of cz books for a re-built library.
Take care.
Thank You.
