Well, there was one Chicago-area uncle who was a White Sox’s fan. But I was the only one in the core family unit who was a true red Cardinals’ fan. The overreaching fan-orientation, however, was for the Decatur Commodores, who were a AAA-level minor league farm team of the Giants and Cardinals. I still have a first love for minor league ball (Portland Sea Dogs).

However, I’ve been in New England since 1975, and am a true Red Sox fan these days. Besides, my son Malcolm produces the pre-game shows on NESN, the Red Sox flagship station, and blood is thicker than my Illinois roots.
