As to the South American finds, I hope you gave Marc van Roosmalen a nice Christmas bonus! Manatee; tapir; peccary; etc. …the onza and the black jaguar, alas, remain elusive.

But the sea, that is another story. The coelacanth findings came about and we’ve all seen the reports and specials regarding giant squids. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 95% of future new/lost animal discoveries coming from our oceans and shores. I still hold out a great deal of hope for finding new sea mammals too.

All in all, not bad for predictions, most got close to the target if not spot on. Although when it comes to Bigfoot hunting it seems we have more consensus on what NOT to do as opposed to what we ‘should’ be doing. According to the Smithsonian Magazine, we’ve discovered 300 new species of mammals in the last decade; mostly rodents, but some primates, marsupials and cetaceans too.
